The Redwood Treefish Longboard is a performance work of nose-riding art. This gorgeous board was a special commission by a loving girlfriend as a gift to her partner, Ventana Adventurer Liz Stewart.

The bottom deck represents The Ventana Treefish Logo, which is laden with hidden meaning. The stunning surface is made from old growth redwood used in a trellis that covered a Bocce ball court in Scotts Valley, CA. The Treefish itself is Doug fir offcut from a local cabinet shop. The eye/moon is a shimmering piece of quilted maple from the luthiers at our upcycle partner, Santa Cruz Guitar Company. This legendary company has been making exceptional, acoustic guitars for the likes of Johnny Cash, Ben Harper, Elvis Costello, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Buffet and hundreds of others since 1976.

The top deck incorporates the same redwood as the bottom and has an inlay inspired by Mexican design elements and made of Indian rosewood and spruce offcuts from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company.

The tail on the bottom deck is inlayed with a strip of abalone shell from Northern California, and the top deck tail has an inlay of guitar face purfling. The tail block, leash plug and vent plug are claro walnut offcuts from a local cabinet shop.

The fin has translucent "roots" extending from the base of the Treefish. It is made of redwood floorboards from the historic Schwann Mansion in Santa Cruz, California. The Victorian was built of locally milled, old growth wood in the late 1800's, and this clear grain, heart redwood floorboards served the residents through the early 2000's when the house was torn down. The wood is at least 1000 years old.

Nail holes in the wood were filled with brass using a secret Ventana process. That process was also used to inlay the 11 in the tail, a number with special meaning to Liz.

The rails are made of U.S grown oak cork, and it was glassed with Entropy Super Sap 100 Bio Resin and 4oz. fiberglass cloth (two layers on top and one on bottom). As with all Ventana boards, the interior is glassed and sealed, as well.

Made in Santa Cruz, California by master craftsman Martijn Stiphout.
